    Probably won't last, but Quintana has been great so far.

    It's unlikely because bullpen performance is unpredictable from year to year. Few pitchers would have pitched in front of bad pens for 15-20 years.

    That's true. And that's because the game has changed. 25 decisions versus 37, each time for the best starter in the game. Carlton was in to get a decision no matter what. No pitcher, even if as great as Hernandez, is used like that today. Manager'd be fired and/or lynched.

    The debate over Carlton's record is silly. He pitched how well he pitched. Whether he won or loss was irrelevant.
    He pitched with a bunch starters that had ERA+'s in the 80's, which might explain his relative record.

    Baseball won't truly be up to date until a pitcher with a losing record wins the MVP.

    Actually, you did make an argument based solely on wins and losses, which is not a good argument at all, but this is better.
