I have already heard the point raised that there were no charges filed, but Goodell has done this before. He set the precedent for punishment without charges with Roethlisberger, which was also initially a six-game suspension. It was reduced to four. I assume we will see an appeal.

Bill Polian correctly pointed out that six games follows the letter of the rules put in place after Ray Rice.

My issue is the way the NFL dragged its heels on making a ruling. This took over a year. Sure, there is plenty of time for the appeal to the league, but what if the NFLPA and/or Elliott wants to take this to court?

oop is right -- hold on, just threw up in my mouth -- this is most similar to Roethlisberger. In fact, I bet the suspension is reduced to no more than 4 games. Which is what Ben served.

Go take a shower and have a nap. Come back to us when you sober up.

    Although I agree too.

I just saw a timeline on ESPN which had phone records and other information being turned over to the NFL in June. That makes me wonder what took so long. Did the NFL take too long asking for those materials or was there some issue in getting it? I'm just trying to understand why this took so long.

I think there have been other players who faced discipline even though they were not charged with a crime. I'm fairly certain Roethlisberger was the first.

The reaction of Jerry Jones should be fun given how strongly he claimed that he had looked into it and there was nothing to show domestic violence.

The Bills traded away Sammy Watkins and Ronald Darby in separate trades today.

Watkins goes to the Rams with with a sixth-round pick for cornerback E.J. Gaines and a second rounder.

Darby goes to the Eagles for Jordan Matthews and a three.

The Cowboys have Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris, and the best O-line in the league. They'll get by the first four games.

Do they have the best O-line? Two new starters.

Also, if 6 games sticks, he won't return until Week 8.

I doubt six games will stick. I'm guessing the league reduces it to four games in exchange for cooperation such as an agreement not to take the matter to court.

Even if it stays at 6, why would that turn into 8?

It wouldn't. What he means is Week 8 of the regular season. The Cowboys have a bye before then, so he would miss six games and a bye, then return Week 8. That would be the Cowboys' seventh game.
