His work with Edge -- both as rivals and a team -- was pretty good, and he was great early on as the Legend Killer. But he's been pretty flat in recent years, probably because they're worried about how to book him because every time they've tried to give him the ball and let him run with it, he's screwed up behind the scenes.

Gorilla was very good in the early to mid-80s when he was with Ventura. After that, he was great with Heenan, but if he was with anyone else, he wasn't very good. Once the E got into PPVs, he would get annoying by mentioning the PPV in every third sentence. Used to drive me nuts when he, and Vince and the others used to do that. It's like, "Yes, I get it, the PPV is coming. Stop beating me over the head with it."

I read an interview with Solie that he gave right before he died in which he told the story of how he was fired from WCW. As he described it, a young director and producer who looked like they were just out of college told him to constantly mention an upcoming PPV while he was calling a match. Solie mentioned it at the beginning of the match, once during the middle, and at the end.

The two kids got all over him for not mentioning it enough. Solie responded that he'd been doing his job longer than either of them had been alive combined, and that if he was broadcasting the NFC Championship game, that he wasn't going to mention the Super Bowl in every other sentence. He left shortly thereafter.

Yes, I agree that some of the Gorilla-Ventura and Gorilla-Heenan stuff was awesome. But he was kinda caught in that odd time when Vince seemingly wanted a completely different sound. But from what all I have read, the dude was really a legend in WWE annals.

Vince seems to be of this mindset, unfortunately, which is why I always think we get Cole relentlessly schilling for everything else constantly. Just call the damn match and get people interested; that'll always help more than hyping up the next thing. And especially with the Network being around now, hyping up the next event is needed less.

There has been so much to digest in the past two weeks, but I can sum most of my thoughts up in one sentence:

Half this shit has no logic and makes no sense.

Well, that's what happens when you've got not one but two cross-brand matches on a "Raw only" show.

Logic does not exist in the WWE world.

Can't wait to see Roman come out in the main event tonight and flip the entire ring over.

They teased it in their last match, teased it again this time, but I had a feeling they were going to do that spot. Strohman had already beaten Show once, so it didn't make sense to beat him again, and someone on the Cageside Seats forum pointed pointed out that have the newer ring posts this time.

It's still a great spot, and the ref took a great bump.

Of course, nothing will replace the first time they did the spot with Show and Lesnar. It was years before they finally admitted it was staged.
