I think many fans have a hyper-excessive definition of mediocrity.

Going into last season, many people wouldn’t have had the Caps in their top 10 teams. They were in that fringe 11-16 range. If you dug into the comments sections, you’d find a large chunk of the fan base that was mad they weren’t firing the coach and launching a rebuild.

Then those fans are idiots. They still had so much talent on that team.

The Canucks for example , are run by the most incompetent management group and ownership in the league. If you listen to some of the old hockey men talk they believe they have fastforwarded their rebuild because they are hanging around a playoff spot. They lucked into Elias Petturson who is going to be one of the best young players in the league. They have Quinton Hughes on the way and Brock Boesser. They need so much more but when fans say they should trade their pending UFA defense man in Edler, the meatheads get up in arms. How can you do this? You are close to a playoff spot. It’s such short term thinking it’s ridiculous. Hockey execs and old boy media are 15-20 years behind the other sports.

    That’s still behind 2 100 point teams.

There becomes an obvious time to stop chasing 8th place and holding on to useless hope. Caps were not there.

Peter Chiarelli and the rotating cast of Alumnae the Oilers bring on would like to have a word with you.

Actually the Senators are the right answer but Edmonton and Vancouver are close

That is because their Owner is a complete moron. Dorion is pretty good at evaluating young talent.
