When last season started, I figured the Seahawks had one, maybe two years, before the expiration date on the main defensive guys who got them to the Super Bowls. They didn't make it one year, and lost a couple of games thanks to the ill-advised Blair Walsh hire. Bennett gone, Sherman gone, plus who knows if Avril will be back to speed after his neck injury.
As for the 49ers paying $39 million, did they watch any Seattle games from the past two years? Sherman has been injured most of the last two years. Even when not injured, he's not the same shutdown corner he used to be. IMO they way overpaid.

It’s a one-year, $10 million deal. The rest of the money is non-guaranteed based on him making the Pro Bowl.

The 49ers have more cap money than they can possibly spend. It’s a no-lose deal. That said, I don’t think it’s going to be a difference maker for them.

I don't get how people who follow the NFL think that the niners are on the hook for 39 million

Same people who thought Mike Glennon was getting $45 million.

Part of me hoped the Browns just started signing and trading for every available quarterback with all their cap space, hoarding them like a kid who isn't usually allowed to eat chocolate on Halloween night with Snickers bars.
