Three NFL championships (there was a league before the Super Bowl). Only coach to win titles with two different teams. Only coach to win NFL and AFL titles.

  2. Glanville was exactly like Buddy Ryan. He was the more offense, but less offensive Buddy Ryan.
He might be considered an innovator, but nothing close to a great NFL head coach.
Is he still coaching at Portland State?

Seifert is a great defensive mind. One of the best in the last 40 years.

He did not have the misfortune of following Bill Walsh though. Because he did, he got to win two Super Bowls quarterbacked by guys named Montana and Young, who threw passes to a guy named Rice.

And, yes, the 1989 49ers probably beat anyone in a single game. Anyone.

At least it worked for him. Using those type of magazine tips in my 20s usually ended up with a “What are you attempting to do down there?”

Obviously I didn't mean unfortunate in the sense that he was given the keys to a Ferrari. I meant unfortunate in the sense that he probably will never get the credit he deserves for being a very good NFL football coach. He wasn't some carpetbagger like Barry Switzer.

He is an assistant coach with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL.

I covered the exhibition game in Memphis when then-Oilers coach Glanville left tickets for Elvis (Pats were the opponent). Figured it was the easiest pregame story ever to just go to Will Call and see who showed up as Elvis. Nobody did. I was ripshit. But then after the game I told Glanville about it and he was ripshit. So I got a good postgame column out of it.

If anyone came up and said "I'm Elvis," would he actually get the tickets?
