I forgot Davie was even at New Mexico. Seems he had a bunch of scandals that should have led to him being sacked a few times in recent years.

Willie Taggart never signed a contract to coach FSU.

Willie Taggart never signed a final contract. Here’s why it could matter

True for any other state; not true for New Mexico, where scandal and failure is part of the social fabric.

He wasn't all that great: vs. Oregon, one concession touchdown in the second half; vs. Arizona State, four touchdowns in the first quarter, one field goal the rest of the way. The Trojans had late chances for comeback victories vs. BYU, Washington and Notre Dame, but came up empty. They had probably the best receiving corps in the country and he did help develop 3-star QB Slovis. Credit for that.

Gotta wonder if FSU saw bad signs early and intentionally didn’t sign — not sure how contract law works in Florida and whether Taggart would have protection.

“A source close to Stoops tells Noles247 that he does not consider himself a candidate for the job."

I don’t consider myself a candidate for a Nobel, but I’d still take it if someone offered.

UNLV is an an interesting spot. Last month they just opened a $30 million football complex that Sanchez convinced the Fertitta Brothers to invest in. Between that and sharing a stadium with the Raiders they do have some legitimate stuff to offer recruits out on the trail. They need a coach that can build a roster through multiple ways. Just recruiting high school kids ain't going to get to done. They need to hit the transfer portal hard and someone that can recruit junior colleges. A coach that can concentrate on getting Pac-12 bouncebacks through the transfer portal by convincing them they will get on the field quickly.

It's a bad job. Hard to build a tough-guy team in a city like that, and the Mountain West is full of tough-guy teams. Better to go full-on air raid, throw it 55 times, recruit undersized QBs and receivers, maybe win 6-7 games one year.

3 winning seasons in 30 years. The job sucks.
