Good on the editor for speaking up. Good on Joe Moorhead for doing what he did, particularly under the circumstances.

Aside from the story's main idea, I can empathize with Moorhead not being given a fair chance by too many in town.

Sounds to me like he got run out of town because he isn’t from SEC country. Not a fit? He embraced the community. They rejected him.

And that "yankee" bullshit is just that because Mullen is from fucking Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Moorhead's mistake was being the guy replacing The Guy.

Lots of truth to that, but it was pretty much a done deal that they were going to fire him when the season was over, then the Ole Miss player got a penalty for pretending to pee like a dog and Miss St. won the Egg Bowl. That made it awkward to fire him, but they got over it.

Exactly. It's a problem with some in this corner of the world. Can empathize ... but I'm from this part of the world. Apparently, not sounding or styling myself like them is a big problem with some. Not all, of course, but some.

There are many who give the region a wonderful reputation ... they are inviting, open and kind. But, as Moorhead and others can attest, there are some who will not give outsiders a chance for any reason.

They're going to have to open their checkbooks. Liberty will match just about any offer. Cash is not an object there.

There's some booster's ass he didn't properly kiss, I'm sure.

Now, I respect what Dan Mullen probably had to do to win like he did at Mississippi State. JUCOs, just-barely qualifiers, some edgy guys, some guys there on the "booster scholarship" plan. Mullen's a prick - when he coaches for your school, he's your prick - and he kept things in line, then got his Tebow in Dak Prescott, which helped further. because dudes who's otherwise act out suddenly shape up around a real-deal QB.

I'm guessing Moorhead arrived and had some, as they say, hard-ass MFers on hand. It probably wasn't like Penn State (which is still a blue chip, Tiffany school), it probably needed more discipline than Moorhead initially delivered and, let's be clear: A school like Mississippi State, those fans don't give a shit about community service. They ring cowbells at games. They successfully sabotage the in-state rival. They once had a coach who castrated a bull at practice, then beat Texas.
