Just substitute Donald Trump for Jerry Jones and Republicans for Cowboys, and it’s absolutely bang-on.

Dale Hansen is a sneaky genius and a Dallas treasure.

See, I disagree with that. Hansen is missing something. I think a lot of journalists miss it, and I didn't really see it until certain life events forced it on me.

Life is hard. People wish for sports to be an escape. Even if your team sucks, you look forward to the game and all that comes with it -- the tailgating, the relationships, the drama, whatever. So, if you don't go, or you don't watch, you lose that fun thing and life is harder. Sure, people could learn to relax with their reactions (some more than others), but take it away or remove it? That's worse.

We forget that because it's not as escape for us, it's our job.

I disagree with your disagreement. These teams and schools have done an effective job of training you to believe that it's your team and you love your team To get us to buy tickets, PSLs and the latest gear. Truth is it's not, and there are a helluva lot of things you could be doing with your time that are better for you than screaming at the TV because whatever bonehead called up a run play on third and 6. Not to mention, you don't get some sort of merit badge for suffering along with these people when the team blows. At the end of the day, these are entertainment vessels. That's it. It's a TV show, and if the show stinks because the production sucks or the actors are terrible you change the channel. No one sat and suffered through Two Broke Girls in hopes that the franchise turned around.

Jones is offering a one or 2 year contract extension. Garret wants more, years and control. Jones won’t give it. Both get cover.

Jones wants Garrett to walk away. He doesn’t have to fire to get him to leave but not offering an extension is de facto termination. So he’s offering him something he wants him to reject so Jones can say he tried
