He had some solid games later in the season, too. I don't think he is a sure thing, but he's a better long-term bet better than anyone Carolina has right now. As I already mentioned, part of the trouble for Jones was the offense around him. The Giants' offensive line isn't good and neither are their receivers.

Bruce Irvin, Mario Addison and Gerald McCoy weren't young.

And I don't consider Kuechly young. He's assured of a yellow jacket, he's probably 2-3 years away from really mulling over leaving the game.

He said “you shouldn’t mess with happy,” too.

Matt Rhule talks a lot. Great quality in college. Helped him get this job. That and some missed field goals and overtime wins.

I don't think Jones is very good. You may very well be right that I'm underestimating him.

Here's the thing, though. Dave Gettleman thinks Dave Gettleman is the smartest man in football, and his proof of this is ultimately that he took Daniel Jones with the 6th pick when no one else wanted him. That means the coach of the Giants will absolutely, positively have to win with Jones. Maybe they can. I'm skeptical.

In Carolina there's the potential of Cam Newton, but if he comes back and can't play at the same level no one holds that against you. They will likely look to bring in another QB as insurance.

So, which QB situation would you prefer: win with Daniel Jones or you're fired, or try to win with Cam Newton and (maybe) Teddy Bridgewater and if it doesn't work, move on?

    I'd take Carolina.

The word used above was stability. Given Newton's health, the Panthers don't have that.

I get your point with Gettleman. If Jones fails, he is probably out of a job. I'm not sure he should still have one at this point, anyway. The funny part is Giants fans insisting that other teams did want Jones. They seem to like Jones, but they are still trying to convince themselves they couldn't have gotten him with their second first-rounder.

Or you just take the 60 mil and when it doesn't work, you go back and get a Power 5 job because the only label you get is that -- his stuff only works in college and everyone wants to be what he left.

Coaches don't think like that. He's SURE he can succeed. Suppose (I don't believe this for a second) Newton comes back to camp healthy. All of a sudden, he could be Coach of the Year with a 10-6 team. When Newton eventually and inevitably gets hurt again, well, that's not his fault. Meanwhile, compound interest keeps working on that $60 million.

I don’t think many Giants fans are doing that at all. I think the vast majority would agree Gettleman should have waited on Jones and think he should have hit the curb with Shurmur.

    A no-lose deal for Ruhle.

As a giants fan I agree. Should have taken Josh Allen at 6 and Jones at 17 if you really wanted him. And shouldn’t have wasted a pick on Lauletta a year earlier. And shouldn’t have given the 4th pick in the 3rd and 4th round for 8 games of Leonard Williams.
Gettleman is the satirical cartoon version of an NFL GM, arrogant, patronizing, loud and fat. And he’s particularly bad because his only significant accomplishment is getting coffee and donuts for people who won

I think drafting Josh Allen and Daniel Jones together may be grounds for execution.

Not the QB Josh Allen, the Jacksonville LB/DE who was drafted #7
