As the guy who will finish second to Trout, he almost has it locked up from a narrative standpoint.

Trout is the best player in the game. Hands down. No question. It’s not his fault he’s never been on a team that won a postseason game. A single baseball player, even 1972 Steve Carlton, can’t carry a team to the postseason.
But his team isn't even a wild card contender and hasn’t been for a few years.
Value equals replaceable. LeMahieu has started games at 3B, 2B and 1B, leads he league in batting average and has hit from every spot in the order except 8th. Albeit 82% have been as a lead off hitter from which he has driven in 68 of his 76 runs. On a team that has lost 7 of its opening day starters to the ILhe’s been irreplaceable fora 1st placeteam

This brings up the debate between Most Valuable Player and Player of the Year and how "valuable" is defined. LeMahieu is the former and Trout the latter.

Trout is the only reason to go to an Angels game. Without him, that team draws no more than half of whatever fans it attracts now. Trout carries that whole franchise on his back. That's value.

Jesus. I can’t believe people still think like this. I’m sure Trout would do just fine if the situations were reversed.

Why would bating as far down as 8th in the order be looked upon as a positive? And I do see you have invoked RBI in your argument.

If you're going to look like this, you'd better be pretty good.
