Vince Naimoli - original owner of the Rays died at 81. Played no small part in helping the Giants get a new ballpark by agreeing to buy the Giants and move them to Tampa Bay, which was blocked by MLB and then was given an expansion team to avoid a lawsuit. Guy was so cheap he didn't pay for internet or e-mail for the organization - felt the internet was a fad.
Do major sports leagues not do background checks and interviews on prospective owners? I'd like to think one of the criteria for ownership of a major sports team is an aptitude and ability to field a successful team - beyond personal wealth.
