I remember when it happened too, because early ESPN used to show replays on weekend mornings.

I think the game also came about because of the strike, when MLB was trying get anything, including televising minor league games, to fill programming. There was some talk about having the old-timers do a tour of different ballparks. They did make the game an annual thing for a few years to raise money for old timers who were financially struggling.

Some jokes write themselves. A guy recently DFA'd has been traded for a Scrubb.

Tyler White, recently designated for assignment by the Astros, was traded to the Dodgers, a source told MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand. In return, Houston received Minor League righty Andre Scrubb. Neither team has commented.

Cardinals defeat Pirates 6-3 today for a four-game sweep and are tied with the Cubs for first place in the NL Central. They went 7-1 on an eight-game road swing and basically knocked the Reds and Pirates out of the race.

It remains to be seen if St. Louis will try to add a top-shelf starting pitcher for the playoff push. History says a middling reliever is all they pick up.

What was all the fuss about in the Red Sox-Rays game Wednesday?

Did Tulo ever play a full season? It seems like he was always hurt the last, shit, eight years or so.

He only played over 140 games three times and the last one was 2011.

Just went to bb-ref and put in Nomar Garciaparra. His closest comp from age 25-32 is Troy Tulowitzki. They both have 44.2 WAR.

This is an example of why I dislike the "X Time All-Star" because while he's a 5-time AS, he only went past 140 games 3 times. AS means you had a nice half year, and/or have a marketable name.

I guess given the length of the season, a NBA AS is more likely to have had a great year than a MLB AS.

I don't mean to disparage Tulo, he was a great story in 2007 leading the Rockies to the WS and as a Giants fan feared his bat but he just kept getting injured.

Rays manager brought in a lefty reliever for starter to face lefty batter, then brought in righty reliever to face righty. But a lefty was up next, so he moved the initial reliever to first base. Sox skipper Cora charged Rays had violated DH rule on their lineup card. As Angel Hernandez was home plate ump, chaos ensued. They finally called New York for clarification and advice. All told, 20 minutes of guys standing around looking at lineup cards. Still unclear if any rule was violated.

He was revered here and 2007 remains one of the most magical sports seasons in Colorado history. But he was traded a year too late.

Side note: I actually covered him in 1997. His Little League team made the Western Regionals that I covered for several years in San Bernardino and got to the finals before a 2-1 loss to the Southern California team from Mission Viejo, one game short of going to Williamsport.

Angel Hernandez being involved says a lot. My understanding is, when the pitcher enters the game at another position, he takes the DH's spot in the lineup.
