So Van Wagenen gets shown the door and ESPN reports "Many of Van Wagenen's moves failed to work out, including acquiring second baseman Robinson Cano...." Right there should get you canned. Talk about sunk costs. Cano had all the red flags of a slowing, aging vet, sitting on a huge guaranteed contract, with no motivation to do anything different. What was going to get Cano to do an about face, coming back to NY? Brilliant thinking there. How many Cubans and Latin players could you sign with what was owed to Cano?

 

Luzinski was a linebacker in high school with scholarship offers to Notre Dame and others.

Can you imagine how many players he must have flattened?
