Briles is the coach at Mt. Vernon High in East Texas. Second or third year there. Smaller school. I don't know the divisions. Mt. Vernon lost in the state semifinals on Friday.

This is nonsensical phrasing, "Gus Malzahn has been fired as @AuburnFootball head coach."

Why not just say "Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn has been fired."?

Gus Malzahn has been fired as @AuburnFootball head coach.

As opposed to "Gus Malzahn has been fired as Auburn campus maintenance assistant supervisor for old trees."

I always wonder how miserable some schools go about things in order to get someone to quit or agree to a less costly settlement, when they "reassign" a coach. Do they have scrub down the crew boats? sanitize the gymnastic equipment, or maybe even - dare I say it? Teach PE?

Texas did something like that with John Mackovic. His shadow job, I think, was at the golf course. I doubt that required arduous labor in maintenance. But it probably prevented him from doing what most fired coaches want to do, which is to get out of Dodge entirely and ASAP. These days, I think coaches are often willing to accept less than the full financial value of what's due them in return for being free and clear of the place that whacked them.

I do think most contracts now are very specific about what the payout would be, year by year. It's rarely 100 percent of the value left on the contract. The worst "punishment" is probably having to return the courtesy car.

Bret Bielema sued Arkansas over that because they wouldn’t pay out the difference when he was making $50,000 working for the Patriots.

My friend who lives there pointed out that this was the school's best season ever. That is where Dandy Don Meredith is from. The stadium is named after him.

Briles to Texas Tech is a rumor running amok. The other popular rumor is he replaces Hugh Freeze at Liberty, when Freeze is hired at Auburn.

I am really sick and fucking tired of seeing horrible human beings like freezing briles, who cloaked their bullshit in Christianity, continuing to get chance after chance after chance. They are bad men and I don't know who would trust their child with them.
