2020-21 College Basketball thread

The NCAA pays for lodging, food and travel. I believe that’s SOP for the NCAA Tournament in normal years, too.

 

Seventy-five people is a small traveling party?

 

Compared to what is allowed for a football bowl game, yes.

Wow. He always wanted to be in the NBA. Made no secret of that while he was at Ga Tech. He may get there at some point. Sure made a lot of cash from Tech — for years after he got whacked. No mitigation clause.

 

After he got Georgia Tech into the NCAA tournament championship game, they rewarded him with a six- or seven-year rollover contract. So for every season for a while, it was going to cost the athletic department a whopping amount of cash to get out of it.

When they finally did it, Hewitt walked away with a mint. Since then, it was George Mason for a while and now this. Good for Hewitt.

 

Keve Aluma damn near beat UVa by himself last night. There were actual Virginia Tech fans who complained that Mike Young wasn't a splashy enough hire when Buzz left. Those fans are morons. He's been an incredible get. Tech is way ahead of schedule.

 

They totally overachieved with that hire. He has been so good that people forgot how bad off that program was when Buzz Williams left less than two years ago. I love Leonard Hamilton, but Young has done an insanely good job and should be high on the ACC Coach of the Year list. And he's not going anywhere. He's willing to coach at a place with a substandard home court, football-centric fan base and no tradition. At the very least, he'll change the last of those three.

 

Yeah, those fans are morons. Did they come from Raleigh?

And, with all due respect to you and any other Va. Tech backers, just who did they expect to get?

 

Women's No. 1 goes down to N.C. State again. Only third time in last 20 years that same team took down No. 1 twice in one season.

Anybody know if The Athletic wrote a story when the Hokies' best player for a DUI and a gun possession charge 12 hours after a loss at Syracuse? I don't see it on my feed, but I don't know if I'm supposed to see it. I do have some Hokie football stuff. My home team relationship is the Orioles.

 

Andy basically is there only to cover football. The Athletic doesn't have anyone specific assigned to Tech basketball and they'd rather have Andy write offseason football stories than try to cover college hoops games. It was well reported by the usual media in the region (Roanoke Times, Daily Press, RTD, etc.).

Also, Radford is not the Hokies' best player. Important piece who shouldn't play again this season, but not the team's best player.
