That’s not quite accurate. North Laurel beat two of the traditional powers from northern Kentucky (think southern Cincy suburbs), Covington Holy Cross and Covington Catholic, at the start of the season. Smoked Holy Cross, in fact. Lots of teams lose to LexCath, one of the best teams in a single-class state. Ashland is another mountain town, just at the other end of the Kentucky hills. I would characterize North Laurel, South Laurel and Ashland as being on even footing.

I missed those games when I was doing the scan through their MaxPreps page. Good catch. And Ashland is indeed in the mountains but I think of them as playing much more advanced ball than the county schools down below Lexington.

I freely admit it is weird that I follow basketball culture in Kentucky to the extent I do when I’m not a Big Blue fan and not from there. But I feel like it is a parallel universe to Bama football fandom and it gives me an objective way to indirectly gage how nuts we are.

I thought the rap on Cal was that he was a hell of a recruiter, but not always the best as coaching up that talent or drawing Xs and Os. The "coaching them up" thing is rarer than people think - plenty of players are already close to finished projects as freshmen or sophomore, and it's much more common that players have incremental improvements vs. wholesale changes in their game. But the other factor with Cal would be that guys like Coach K have started doing the same shit he does, like target obvious one-and-done candidates.

UVa out of the ACC tournament due to a COVID positive. Champs may not be able to defend their title next week in Indy. Georgia Tech to the tournament final in a walkover.

Their offense is just the same motion set over and over. Very little variation.

I'm old enough to remember (last month) when the going theory was that the conference tourneys should be shelved in order to avoid teams having to sit out the Dance.
