Surprise winners of high major tournaments don’t get slotted into the play-in game.

Between the four extra bids that STILL shouldn’t be there and the Ivy League leaving an extra slot open, this isn’t a year I’m prepared to listen to much complaining.

EDIT: Although hearing UK’s athletic director go on to explain why Louisville is #69 ought to produce some five-star kvetching.

They better have some good escorts for recruiting visits this year if they want to return to being a powerhouse.

I'm with you. The teams left out (Colorado State) have no room for complaining, especially after the bid stealers. Seven for the ACC is dubious.

Today was literally the first time I saw Colorado State discussed anywhere. Boise State was getting some run as a third MWC until fading late.

I was pleased to see Drake get in.

Missouri, enjoy the bus trip to Indy. Don’t bother booking two nights in the hotel.

Hey, like they always say to the mid- or low-majors who don't get in: Win more games. Or win your conference tournament. Louisville was 13-7. Win more games.

Not sure about Syracuse, 1-7 vs. the top quadrant, home non-league wins against a meat-grinder of Bryant, Niagara, Rider, Northeastern, Buffalo and Georgetown, when the Hoyas sucked. They lost their only road OOC game, at Rutgers.

Awfully weak resume, but it's Syracuse and the ACC, so they get the benefit of the doubt.

One advantage the Big Ten has, at least early, is their teams already have been in Indy for a week
The tourney losers who knew they were getting in stayed in Indy instead of going home

Was there any explanation as why locations for games weren't announced with the bracket? Maybe only Hoosiers like me care, but I saw the CBS reveal show for two minutes and it seemed odd to not say if anyone was going to Bloomington, Lafayette, etc.

Not all of them did. Louisville didn't. What if Duke's positive test had emerged 24 hours earlier. Does this mean Louisville doesn't get dumped by the Blue Devils in the ACC Tournament and the Cardinals get into the NCAAs?

Does this automatically mean that a terrible month by N.C. State goes by the boards and the Wolfpack gets in?

If you want to hammer Syracuse, go right ahead and be my guest. But don't even think about going after the ACC as a whole. The conference, as a whole, sure as hell didn't get its hand held and told it was a special snowflake this time around. Didn't get a Top 3 seed in any region for the first time since 1979. Virginia Tech, with Coach of the Year Mike Young and a really good resume, gets a No. 10 seed. The committee didn't just let whoever from the ACC into the tournament. And they shouldn't.
