That much rain in that short a time, though … not good.

Especially an area that's super flat (or in some cases, below sea level) and drains very poorly. Recent history hasn't been kind to Houston and New Orleans.

Have we ever had a back-to-back possibility like this ever happen?

I know there was a situation in the 1930s when two storms made American landfalls simultaneously, but I’m not sure we’ve had two barreling in like this.

Just flipped over to TWC and its lower third says "rare scenario."

Not for nothing, next Saturday is the 15th anniversary of Katrina landfall in Louisiana.

Laura is going to get whipped to the West and it's going to be a major hurricane IMO. The Gulf waters are basically boiling. It's going to be a Cat 1/Cat 3-4 back-to-back hit for Louisiana.

Louisiana's Co-Vid numbers have fallen a little in the past week, but that's going to change next week when people from those low-lying parishes have to evacuate upstate.

The first storm should churn the Gulf waters pretty good, so that should rob the second storm of a lot of energy. But NOLA is going to catch the dirty side of both of them, I'm afraid.

Don't forget that Katrina gave NOLA the cleaner side. We know how that ended.

If they really come in back to back, I think surge is going to be a problem. Laura is going to push on water that Marco already pushed some.

As of 8 a.m., Marco will likely reach hurricane status in the coming hours. Although slightly, Laura is closing the gap between the two (moving faster) and already dropping heavy rains as she goes.
