    An excellent summary.

All valid points, and seconded by Amy's post about her friends down there that she posted about. But JFC, you see that thing build and we have years and years of data -- vs. weeks/months with COVID -- from experts. Just shaking my head.

My son still hopes to go back to LA, where he lived for a year in 2012-2013. He is a big fan of Southeast Asian food though.

I consider it "home" in that I grew up there. Great memories. Two brothers and my parents are still there. My best friend and her husband are in the Bay Area. I'm not going back. Full stop. It's. Not. Happening. I'll visit (three trips since I was laid off in December, but now in a new job that started last week.) I miss my friends and family. I do not miss living there.

I understand the allure. I moved back willingly twice after college because you can be in San Francisco for lunch and skiing at Tahoe in 15 minutes. There's a reason why 40 million people, including most of our friends and all of Gwen's family, are OK with the tradeoffs. It's a lifestyle decision, and living in or near a world-class city is something special. Or LA, for that matter.

They consider anything east of Reno to be "the wilderness" and that's fine. The Pacific Time Zone is lovely this time of year.

At the same time, I'm perfectly happy listening to German music in my little faux Bavarian village and avoiding the gun-toting nut cases (and deputies) up here in the northeast Georgia mountains at a fraction of the price of what I can't afford in NorCal. I can easily imagine that's Mount Diablo out the kitchen window instead of Mount Yonah and I'm good. So is my retirement account.

If I want to go wine tasting, all I have to do is visit the aisle in the supermarket and pick up a bottle from Napa or Sonoma and act pretentious while opening it.

In late April, I can ski here in the morning (I don't ski), golf in the afternoon (I'm a terrible golfer) and take in a Rockies game in the evening (I do that quite well).

I went back in 2012 for a job (needed). After six months and the disaster I walked into, I looked for an exit hatch and found one.

Now with the new job, looking to escape out of the city, and that will happen in the next couple of months. My friends in NoCal want me out there (again, not happening).

We moved to Raleigh in 1991. So in the almost 30 years Gwen and I have been on this side of the country, exactly zero of our California friends have visited. Why? We don't know. There are flights all the time into RDU or ATL. Maybe they're worried they might like it here, although I'll make sure they have round-trip airfare.

Now, all of Gwen's family has been out there at one time or another. And we were last in The City two years ago this month, knowing it was our last visit. I think neither of us has that much interest in going back again, unless it's another wedding or funeral.

The wind is gusting to 25 in Arkansas and everyone's freaking out.

Meanwhile, back home, we got little of the rain and all of the humidity. We'll be in the 100s all weekend with heat indices in the 110 range.

The rain in Arklahoma stopped around an hour ago. The humidity is miserable though. Central Ark did get it pretty bad though with buckets of rain and that wind knocking trees out of the softened ground.

I listed to a lot of WWL coverage during the approach and their coverage hasn't suffered much from the radio cutbacks. Although they did lean a little on calling up Parish President Bobby Joe Broussard from St. Guidry Parish a bit much.

Writing this good makes me glad you came back. Great kicker, too!

A little late on this, but yes, there are many reasons to stay.

A Cat 1 or 2 isn't that big of deal.
Bigger storms are coming, and people either don't trust the experts, think they are special, etc.... in short, ignorance.
They left last time, the thing turned, so they assume the next one will.
As stated, if you leave, you might not get back for days.
Although home owners can't get back in, looters always find a way, so you stay to protect your property.
