Seth Davis floated outed a list of Oklahoma candidates that was retread city. I mean some real clunkers too, like Tom Crean and Frank Martin. I don’t see Texas shopping in that department and if they make a splash hire I think that raises the pressure on OU to go big too.

Also, Marquette will get behind the basketball program. At Texas, it's still merely something to do indoors between the bowl game and spring practice.

His seat was starting to heat up in Austin. He moved back to his home area, and to a basketball school. Probably a good move on his part and certainly he should be more comfortable.

These orange-shirted fucks are now going after my boy at Tech.
    Fucking shit.
And these nazis will get him too, because money is no object to them.
He went to school there and was on staff under Penders.

Six years, no wins in the NCAA Tournament, never more than 21 wins, and that year they won five NIT games -- they were 16-16 after the Big 12 tourney loss. Three losing conference records, another at .500, and overall losing record in Big 12 play. Texas Tech and Baylor passed you by.

It's astounding he wasn't fired the day after the loss to Abilene Christian.

Yeah, but it's only basketball, you know?

Del Conte gave Shaka a contract that made him tough to can without a big payoff. Funny how they didn't hesitate to hand Tom Herman and his staff $25 million to go away, yet kept on with the basketball program as it was.

Wonder if the next coach in Austin might suffer a little by comparison.

Depends on who they hire. UT has a maximum case of "Do you know who I am?" and unrealistic expectations. They have all the money and facilities you could want, but that hasn't helped.

Then again, Alabama made a home run hire I did not expect, and they are the prototypical football school. I just figure that coming off of Smart, Texas will be more worried about a splash hire than a smart one.
