It's incredibly possible that no matter how progressive Austin is, Shaka Smart did not enjoy being a black coach at Texas, which is not progressive.

No matter what else is said about the split, I don't think Smart left Texas worse off. No scandals, no recruiting violations under investigations, etc. I don't know enough about their recruiting to comment but I figure that school in that conference has something of a talent floor unless the HC is incompetent or difficult.

Is there a power conference school with a bigger disconnect between the top donor base and the student body/host community?

Actually, Marquette spent more on men’s hoops in FY19 (~ $15 million) than Texas did ($11.6 million.) Surprising. Both have heavy travel expenses.

Marquette and Butler will play each other 11 times a year on FS1. And I won’t care.

Because your cash flow will be tied up in Summit League parlays.

Might be. But if so, then something besides the win-loss record and NCAA tournament success wasn't researched well. Part of what Shaka reportedly sought was a good fit for himself at a school and for his family wherever he accepted a job.

Sometimes, all parties involved are smart - no pun intended - enough not to let anything leak. When Herb Sendek left Raleigh for Tempe, it blindsided the media and other parties.

Utah hopes this turns out better than what happened when its catty corner neighbor to the south stole Paul Weir from the New Mexico State Aggies.

I don’t see this revving the motor in Bloomington.

Because this worked out so well for Mike Dunleavy, Sidney Lowe, Avery Johnson and Bob Hill, among others.
