My only surprise here is that they haven't already formally whacked him. But these things apparently must come in stages. Brannen has already hired Tom Mears as his attack dog/attorney.

Hoping the pressure cooker doesn’t get to him. Very glad to see UNC hiring a minority coach.

Same here. There was some talk within the family that some preferred Wes Miller. Hope that was because Miller has a decade of head coaching experience and not the "R" word.

I’m not saying they’re all angels, but I’d imagine the part of the fan base inclined to think that way got run off when Dean Smith was wearing his politics on his sleeve.

Nice hire by Utah State. The only surprise is that Odom didn't climb a little more up the D-I food chain with the hire. Apologies if I've just offended any poster or anyone else from Logan.

Part of it? Sure ... that Dean got fully behind Charlie Scott tells us that.

But the fact that Patrick Ewing felt and heard entirely too much for his liking when Dean was recruiting him showed that it hadn't all gone away. Not by a long shot.

Has it improved 40 years later? I'd like to say "yes," but can we be at all certain of this?

Given that the newness has worn off the Virginia upset, that’s a really good step up. Utah State is as solid a mid-major as you could hope for.

At least the Mountain West isn't a one-bid league. Solid work during the regular season and a strong showing during regular-season conference games can get you into the tournament even if one gets tripped up in the conference tournament.

Surprised until I realized that he hasn’t gotten any traction for power 5/6 gigs since the win over Virginia even though they have remained good. At that level, you must win the conference tournament in addition to regular-season excellence.
    Still odd geographically.
