    The transfer universe makes for some fascinating reading, but it's not to be taken entirely seriously.
    UT Martin, for example, has 16 players in the portal. Quite a number when you consider teams can have no more than 13 scholarship recipients at any one time. It's the sort of thing that makes you wonder just how many of these names are walk-ons.

    As of this evening, 1,346 Division I players have dipped their curious paws into the transfer portal according to
    Verbal Commits | D1 Players Transferring in 2021

    Of them:
    * 27.4% have found a new home at another D-I school
    * 5.2% have swallowed their pride and announced their intentions to pursue opportunities at something lower than Division I
    * 67.4% are still looking.

    Of the 252 folks who played at a Power-6 school when last we noticed:
    * 13.4% had found a home at another Power-6 school
    * 32.1% had swallowed their pride and announced intention to play at a lower level than Power 6
    * 54.4% are still looking.

    All but 13 of the 357 Division I schools have ≥ 1 name in the portal. Those 344 schools have an average of four players apiece in various stages of the transfer universe.

    A nice step up from UNC-Greensboro for Wes, especially since Chapel Hill opted for Hubert Davis.

    Few hasn't had the best coaching trees. His best is Leon Rice who has been at Boise for 10 years.

    And if Davis doesn't succeed in Chapel Hill and Miller flourishes at UC, the rumblings connecting him to the Tar Heels will become unavoidable. A SoCon-to-ACC level jump would have been a bit rich for UNC's blood. But going from UC to an elite-tier job is reasonable; Mick Cronin just did it. This is one of those AAC/Big East jobs that is better than a lot of Power-5 gigs, much like Marquette. It's a perfect move for Miller and if he can work the transfer portal well, he can return the Bearcats to their usual level in a hurry.

    It's a no-lose. If Miller succeeds, he can pick the next move – if he wishes to make one. If too many folks think there's too much slippage in Chapel Hill, there's zero question that Cincinnati-to-Chapel Hill is doable.

    Hubert Davis just named his staff. Kept two assistants and replaced Steve Robinson (something of a surprise IMO) and Kendall Marshall (no serious surprise). The interesting part is that all the assistants – in addition to Davis – played at Chapel Hill.

    Guess who else has been doing the same thing for 25 years? (Hint: Chapel Hill's fans don't like them too much.)

    Portland State promotes associate head coach Jase Coburn. Probably the smartest and cheapest move.

    Yes it is.
    Fails to note a few relevant points of comparison.
