Virgil Trucks's great nephew Derek Trucks is one of the greatest slide guitar players ever.

And wouldn't his nephew be Butch Trucks, drummer for the ABB? Or would they be cousins, because Derek Trucks is Butch Trucks's nephew.

    Correct. Butch was Derek's uncle.

That's a name that's not being given anymore, Butch.

    Evan Phillips, lucky dog.

Spent the last few years with Baltimore, including playing for the AAA team this year. They released him, he goes to Tampa where he earns a three-inning save in his only appearance. They try to sneak him through waivers and the Dodgers pounce.

Baltimore apparently didn't know what it had.

Giants are 35 over .500. Strange.

In the last 4 seasons they were 60 games under.

And doing it in a division with the Dodgers and a spent-heavily Padres. Farhan really has been a breath of fresh air to the organization and I have to admit the hiring of Kapler was smart. Truly was wrong about that hire but it’s great.

Yet the PECOTA projections still have the Dodgers winning the division. How, I have no idea. It's obvious they didn't do their due dilligence on Bauer and Hamels. Who knows how long Kershaw will be out. And the Giants may still be living rent-free in Jansen's head.

I dunno ... maybe Hershiser will make a comeback. They'll sign Lincecum? Dravecky?

It doesn't hurt that a bunch of veterans well into their 30s are playing like they're kids again. In any case, it's a marvelous story.
