I didn’t realize he’d gone on a recent hitting streak.

For the good of the discussion (Alberta is a Michigander who went to State).

I think an argument can be made that Cabrera is the best right-handed hitter ever, but to do so at the expense of Mays and Aaron seems sacreligious.

Miggy had a better 4-5 year run than Aaron, but Cabrera had 16 elite seasons. Aaron had 20. Twenty. Two. Decades.

Aaron also has that fun more walks than Ks stat.

Agreed. I might take Jimmy Foxx over Cabrera as well. Among all RH hitters for whom complete career resumes are known:
    1st in OPS (1.038)
    2nd in OBP (.428)
    2nd in slugging (.609)
    4th in RBI (1,922).

Back under the old trade rules, didn’t teams use to put a ton of guys on waivers just to gauge interest in seeing if other teams were interested enough for players to swing a deal?

Ummmm… Manny Ramirez was a lot better statistically.

No question. But he and A-Rod and McGwire and Sosa have the steroid thingy to deal with.

This was my visceral reaction. It’s hard to look past what Aaron and Mays did. But then to look at numbers, the reaction seems a little over the top. It’s just so hard to be objective with Mays on these.

He may have been the 810th overall pick but he can jack.

Its based on the fact that Cabrera just hit a milestone. Miggy was been fantastic, no doubt (I saw him as a stud in 2003), Triple Crown winner, 500 and that huge .318 avg. A sure fire HOFer.

Greatest RH batter ever? Just a flat no. Mays hit 660 HR at Candlestick. Hammerin' Hank hit 755!

How has the Orioles' 19-game losing streak flown under the radar here?

It's the same reason people don't celebrate Tuesdays.
