It was funny watching Shildt say "You fucked up" to the ump over and over again.

Umpires make mistakes. Wasn't horrendous. The second base umpire mistakenly called the runner at second out on a force play (without a tag). With the wind (obvious from the way the ball landed), it is possible to not assume IFF was called (and in fact, maybe it shouldn't have been). Once U2 has called the runner out, he has put the runner in jeopardy and calling time to fix it is the correct move. He made a mistake and they fixed it. They gave Shildt a lot of latitude to scream and yell. Eventually, he said enough magic words to get bounced.

I'm glad the standards for sports officials are so high that any missed call is still so unbelievable and unacceptable that a capital case is made of it.

And on the other hand you have Joe West, who is retiring after the season. Thank God.

infield fly HAD been called. That’s what made it so egregious to me. But hey, all’s well that ends well.

Keep in mind this happened because Belt, who had been crushing the ball, tried to bunt against the shift in Coors Field. I get the idea of making teams pay for the shift, but it hadn't been working against him. He had seven hits in 13 at-bats, including three home runs, up to that point in the series. It is bad luck, but that was also kind of a dumb decision, whether it was Belt doing it on his own or he was told to do it.

Hey, looking up into the lights, waiting for the ball to come down, anyone could make that mistake because of a case of Vertigo.
But, since the Cardinals still won, they're off the hook and it's still a Beautiful Day. So just let it go and Walk On.

As for the Cardinals 3B, he still hasn't found what he was looking for.
