You're correct in that the play was awful, but some of the reactions from the Island when Tavares went to Toronto were exceedingly awful, too.

 

Refresh my memory as to how Charlie Simmer got into this discussion. He was never a goon. He was a left wing on one of the top lines in the league, had consecutive 56-goal seasons.

 

That’s who Pat Maroon was supposed to be. That’s what you told us.

 

The word goon has been lost on people. A goon is someone who is only out there for one thing and plays less than 5 minutes a game or so. It’s not someone who fights but takes a regular shift that you don’t like.

 

I doubt I ever thought Maroon could be another Simmer. He coulda been a helluva lot better when he was skating with Getzlaf and Perry, but he was too dumb. Same with his stint in Edmonton. Then he took a goon roll after leaving Edmonton.
As for Lomberg, check his time on ice tonight (I did). Totally fits the goon role.

Man that was ugly. There was a moment when they first sat him up with the trainer holding his neck and he looked like a rag doll. Camera cut away immediately.

 

I got a sick feeling as soon as the trainer's arm shot up, the signal this is serious and he needs help immediately.

 

And who is the idiot that fought Perry afterwards? I know Perry is a piece of shit, but that was an accident.
