I asked their coach, Tebb Kusserow, which was better. He said, "Smith can do everything Thurman can do, and he is taller."

In high school, Thurman was the QB and played in the secondary only in critical situations. In college, Thurman was strictly a DB, as was Smith.

In high school, Smith never left the field. He played tight end mostly, because he was a great blocker and receiver. They could split him out if needed. They had two other Div. 1 receivers. On defense, he was all over the field. He usually was at LB because he could rush or drop back. On sure passing downs, he went into the secondary. If you went to a game and knew this team had a player considered to be better than all the others, it would have taken you about 5 minutes to figure out which one it was. His legendary story is showing up for a track meet, without any training or practice, and high-jumping 7-feet on his first try.

Modell lied when he went in for a reduction in his contract which he received. At that time he also got stadium improvements sucha s new scoreboard. When Glandening came along Modell then decided he did not like his contract and tried to get out of it. To intentionally misrepresent a signed contract is fraud. Modell also held the master lease on the contact. He could havemade the improvements.

I do not defend Midnight Mel or anyone else but let's not condemn him to the same level of hell as Art Modell.

Any Mel Tucker haters realize he may have done you a favor by leaving? If you haven't, go take a look at this year's MSU team. It's completely void of talent but makes up for it by also being poorly coached. "Midnight Mel." More like Midnight Meh.

It might just be me being a liberal squish again, but some of the Midnight Mel vitriol feels a little excessive compared to a white coach grabbing the cash. Like there would be criticism but it feels supercharged for him.

I remember Kiffin got scorched here pretty good when he left UT for USC, and that was before it was cool to hate Lane Kiffin.

As I say with any coach/player that fans or pundits think overpaid, etc...."he didn't offer himself that contract".

Seriously, where do 12 guys from Kent State think they can find another scholarship offer? The skill guys maybe, but the other nine?

Kent State plays three guarantee games a year, including Washington, Oklahoma and Georgia in 2022. Maybe they are willing to go FCS if it means not being cannon fodder any more.

Just by sheer coincidence, I caught a couple of Kent State games on tv.
They weren’t very good, but they were fun to watch.
    They’re like a fart in a skillet.
They go 1,000 mph, and it goes all different directions.
