Grandmama slept overnight in a chair desk at a school during Andrew as there was absolutely no evacuation plan for Hollywood, Fla.

TS Julia has officially formed and expected to become a hurricane but no threat to the U.S.

So many storms hitting Central America this year, you’d think Donald was holding the cosmic Sharpie.

Both are expected to become hurricanes today. Lisa is at 70 mph; Martin is at 65.

NHC's official hurricane season runs through November 30, so we've still got 28 days. I'm not going to jinx it, but I can't remember a named storm hitting the US mainland after Halloween.

Kate in 1985 hit the Florida panhandle on November 21
Unnamed hurricane hit Miami on November 4, 1935
One appears to have hit North Carolina on November 2, 1861

That appears to be the list, so yes, rare indeed.

Right now we are pretty much on target for named storms and averages.
Martin is the 13th named storm and will be the 7th hurricane.
The average is 14 and 7.
The prediction for named storms was 16-20, and we could see a couple more in the coming weeks. Hopefully they are just TSs and not hurricanes.
