Butler took its time to decide but has fired LaVall Jordan:

Financial decision. The buyout on the contract dropped significantly today.

Jordan only had one year left on his contract. Speaks volumes about Barry Collier's incompetence that either 1) Butler couldn't afford to buy out the full value of the contract three weeks ago or 2) agreed to a poison pill buyout when he extended the contract in 2018.

Lot of rumors floating around that Collier is also on his way out and Thad Matta will be the new AD and make both basketball coaching hires. I guess we'll see if that plays out too.

A clause that incentivizes execution on April 1 is the school's way of telling you, "We don't really want you to be our coach."

So Matta to Butler and Sean Miller to Xavier are nearly simultaneous statements that the grass ain't always greener on the other side even if the paychecks are.

I mean, He was at Butler for one season. I don’t know how many people look real fondly on 32 games 21 years ago

Maybe not. But it's a pretty good opportunity.

Well, his connection there is a lot deeper than the 1 season as head coach. He played there. He was an assistant coach there before becoming head coach. His wife and daughters also went there.

Butler was in the MCC when Matta was there previously. Xavier was in the Atlantic 10. Both jobs have had their profile and accompanying paychecks raised significantly in the time Matta and Miller were away.

Michigan State assistant Dwayne Stephens to Western Michigan. First big hire for the new Bronco AD.
