If the Dodgers can count a title for playing 35 percent of the regular season, the Lakers most certainly can count a "bubble" title."

Yes, and your point is ... what?

You were the one discounting the Lakers title as an "AAU travel tournament in Disney."

So what is it? Do the Dodgers, Lakers and Washington titles not count?

Of course they count. Look it up in the record book. The leagues recognize those teams as winning the championship. But those Lakers didn’t win a single home or away game. No travel. Controlled fanless environment. It’s so fair that they ought to hold all playoffs in a bubble.

Somebody posted that the bubble championship didn't have the same connection with fans and I agree for the MLB, NBA, and NHL. It didn't feel the same for fans. And I also think they weren't the same competitively. Could the Lakers hold up over a full season.

Of course it didn't feel the same. It wasn't the same. But every sport, just like everything else on earth, did its best to adjust to the pandemic circumstances as best they could. They had the Masters in November. Course not the same at all. But Dustin Johnson has a green jacket anyway. The Lakers' bubble title is totally valid. Their circumstances were the same as every other damn team in the bubble.

I'd also argue that it wasn't like the Lakers title was some weird anomaly in the context of the history of the league. Plenty of NBA champions in the past have had middling regular seasons, and then put it together for the playoffs, or, gotten breaks because of injuries faced by opposing teams. Nobody is coming for Toronto's title.

Durant has got to feel some regret for leaving GS for Brooklyn.
