ESPN had an excellent piece on this last year. Short version: everyone connected to the Mavs hated Carlisle’s guts. Luka was disgusted at the way Carlisle mistreated other people. Luka and Carlisle had virtually no relationship and Carlisle was abusive and shitty to people around Luka.

It’s long but a good read.

The dissolution of the Luka Doncic-Rick Carlisle relationship, and what comes next for the Mavericks

Carlisle has been long loathe to play young players, even if they were better players. He played Luka basically because he was forced to.

Yes. Bring back the 3:30 p.m. EDT starts for conference finals and the Finals on Sundays.

But seriously. Should be a straight-up 8 p.m. EDT start.

    No Mike Breen tonight. COVID.

But Chris Paul's favorite official in a Game 7.

I was also surprised it's on ESPN, instead of ABC. As previously mentioned, nothing but basic cable at my house, so I combined this with a late dinner (BJ's Brewhouse). ABC is showing Celebrity Feud instead.

On the other hand, it's now just 9:12 EDT and I feel free to go to bed whenever I want. This has got to be the least competitive seven-game series in NBA history. Third time the first quarter tells the tale.

Nah. The biggest games go to the cable channel (outside of the NBA Finals, which are mandated on broadcast). They had two games earlier on ABC. If Disney can get the games onto cable, where the bread is buttered, they will.

It's certainly one of the most unwatachable series since the 1990s/early 2000s.

Brooks Koepka is at the game with frosted tips.

    Jesus, man. Have some self-respect.

I don't know. I'm obviously rooting for the Celtics, but I think either team is going to give the Warriors more of a challenge on defense than the Mavs and other teams did. I could see it depending on what crew gets assigned to each game. I'd also add that the Celtics and the Heat both play the same brand of basketball, and its made for a pretty muddy series.
