So, who are the Lions taking? Seriously, what is the mood in your neck of the woods about tonight? Will there be a ton of disappointment if Detroit doesn't get Hutchinson?

I woke up in the middle of the night and ESPNU (IIRC) was airing a replay of this past season's UNC-NC State game. I'm not even going to try to spell the highly-touted NC State LT's name, but on the iso-replays he was featured on, I was not impressed. One game, I know, but the young man looked like he was out of shape.

Never heard of that book, but I'm going to look it up. Sounds like my kind of read.

Hey you Jets fans realize O’Brien wasn’t Marino but he did make a few Pro Bowls (when that meant something) (I’m sticking up for him because he was in my hoops team in College)

Also had not too much around him and got beat up behind a pretty bad O Line.

Only thing even worse are stories looking ahead to the next presidential election in four years the day after the previous Election Day.

One year, he got sacked 62 times. That number still blows me away.

What about college football commits a year out?

    Not for me
    I’d be happy with Thibodeaux
I think fans would be disappointed if they took Thibodeaux and Hutchinson were still on the board
A few years ago there was an uproar when the Pistons passed on Trey Burke and took Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
KCP turned out to be a better player but both are journeyman
The thing about Hutch is not so much the Michigan connection
Whenever the Lions have had a good defense they had players with ATTITUDES
Joe Schmidt, Len Barney, Alex Karras, Night Train Lane, Mike Lucci
Last player they had like that was Chris Spielman (I don’t count Ndamukong Suh because he wasn’t a leader)
Hutchinson could be the guy who brings attitude back to Detroit
But Thibodeaux is talented, reminds me of Ziggy Ansah, and I think all the crap about him is overblown
There’s a reason why Brad Holmes has seen him so much

That's a career amount for most guys now. (edit: few seasons, not career)
O'Brien and Simms were tough, stayed in the pocket and took a lot of hits.
Got to practice at Giants Stadium in hs, that turf was like a thin cover over asphalt. Field turf is like playing on a mattress
    compared to old astroturf.

I interviewed Lem Barney on a radio program about 15 years ago. He was a delight to talk to. IIRC, in his first NFL game Barney picked off Bart Starr and returned it for a touchdown.

I read that book, really good stuff. To me that quote about Kiper is a good one. I spent a lot of years in hockey ops in junior hockey and know a lot of at scouts, both the pro and junior levels, and it's way more than watching film it's about relationships, with players, coaches, family, agents and other scouts and executives. Kiper isn't doing that kind of leg work. Knowledge is power in that world and it's easy to spout off like Kiper and loads of others when there are no consequences for mistakes.
