2023 Baseball Hall of Fame Class

I suspect I am. I just know he was on one of my "local" teams throughout much of his career, and I never considered him in the elite class of third basemen for his era.

Hall of Very Good to me. I won't scream if he stays on the ballot.

 

Rolen gets in this year. His trend line has been going up every year, and this year he gets the 75 percent needed.

 

If Kent doesn't get in, wonder if he'll take a long motorcycle trip?

 

this is probably correct. Beltran is the only other one with a realistic chance and I don’t know how realistic as first ballot guy

 

Rolen and Helton need to make major jumps this year. No brainers start back up on the ballot next year and they could stall out

2024 ballot is beltre, utley mauer
2025 ballot is Ichiro sabathia
2027 ballot is posey

 

Maybe it's best no one gets voted in if the Vets Committee elects Bonds, Clemens and Schilling. That way nobody is tainted by being in the class with the (alleged) cheaters and assholes.

Is Utley really a no-brainer?

I think he’s worthy, but I don’t see him as a first-ballot guy at all.

 

Mauer isn’t a first ballot lock either
His stats as a first baseman mirrored Sean Casey

 

Yeah, but he was an excellent defensive catcher, not a first baseman best known for being a friendly guy.

 

I think he’s Hall worthy but he was an average player for the final five of his 15-year career
Nothing wrong with making it third or fourth year in

 

If Utley is a no-brainer, shouldn't Jeff Kent be? Utley has a better WAR and was a better fielder and base rummer, but Kenet had better counting stats.
