Why do they block these guys up? Two Braves, Cubs and Tigers players? And the Big Hurt and Ken Williams from the White Sox?

Very weird to weight a committee like that.

Given that, I'd say Murphy, McGriff and Palmeiro got their best shot, now or never.

I'm a Red Sox fan, but if Murphy gets in over Mattingly, all because of committee demographics, it's complete bullshit.

No way Maddux or Chipper will be allowed back for Braves events unless Murphy and Crime Dog get elected.

BTW, you can guarantee some people are gonna go ballistic because two women are on the committee in Ng and Slusser.

How is the miserable human being that is Rafael Palmeiro not mentioned in the same breath as McGwire and Bonds? I mean, if they're going to preach about morals, he'd be a pretty damn good guy to start with.

The Hall of Fame makes up the committee -- MLB has nothing to do with it.

Slusser was on the A's beat at the Chronicle for 22 years before getting switched to the Giants a couple of years ago. Also former BBWAA president. And perhaps the most important qualification, has been a poster here. Anyone playing the gender card with Sluss loves the sound of their own voice.

Obviously the presence of Trammell and Morris has not exactly turbocharged Lou Whitaker's candidacy. The Tigers don't have anybody else even in the same solar system of HOF candidacy (although I suppose you could argue Kirk Gibson was a better player than Harold Baines).

Was watching MLB Network and Brian Kenny made an awfully compelling argument for Mattingly, shorter-than-average career or not.

Guys like Mattingly and Murphy are polarizing based on your feelings of longevity, and what length is needed for a Hall of Famer. Is four truly great seasons with nothing else enough? Is five? For some it is. For others no. Would you be surprised if McGriff gets in over both?

They thought it was for Koufax. Who, admittedly, had four of the best seasons ever for any pitcher, but had done nothing of note before and retired at 30.

and Koufax is the unicorn in the hall. There are not three or four guys with careers like that also in. The line was drawn there

the difference is the Football Hall has Sayers.....and Terrell Davis.....and Kurt Warner. They at least have given other short-career guys with big seasons entry.
