If Jackson sits out a year after he couldn't finish consecutive seasons with injuries, not only will he not get a contract anywhere close to what he is seeking, his career as an elite quarterback will likely be over (if it isn't already).

I was going to say...this wouldn't be the same as Le'Veon Bell sitting out the season, but it's similar enough that it'd be a really bad idea. Jackson is 26, just as Bell was when he sat out 2018. Jackson is not as beat up as Bell was, but he's (a lot) more beat up than the average QB. Sure, sitting out a year saves some wear and tear, but the skills that make him a franchise-type player at his position are going to atrophy if he's not playing for a season, He can work out all he wants, throw to all the kids at Louisville he wants, but it's not nearly the same. And if he sits out, he's certainly not going back to the Ravens, who utilized him as well as anyone could. He'd probably end up in an arranged marriage like...Bell and the Jets. Maybe even with the Jets, if Qaron goes off the reservation for good after one season! I'm sure he'd do a lot better than Bell ($35M guaranteed) but the end result would be the same: He lands w/a team that loves his skill set but has no idea how to maximize it. Two years in, he'll be cut and then he's a journeyman.

Maybe, as Batman notes, Jackson has managed his money to the point where he's already set for life. Maybe he's out here making a stand and willing to sacrifice his career to prove a point about the machine. Without wading too deep into the weeds here, I can think of many better causes for which to take a stand (or a knee) that would prove a much more valid point about the NFL and the men that run it. Maybe the league is colluding against Jackson. But that's also a tale quite literally as old as time in pro sports. It's gonna happen again regardless of what he does this year.

Unfortunately if he sits out, he’s no closer to free agency. Ravens have only 2 seasons left of control so he’s got to play.

I find it fascinating that the three teams involved in the Jackson saga are the Browns (for the Watson contract), the Ravens (former Browns) and the Colts (who seem to be kicking the tires on Jackson) - perhaps he'll sneak out of town in the middle of the night? Not sure this is karma, or irony or what.

    Same as it ever was.

This has to be confounding for Jackson.

Watson sat out a season, has zero MVPs, and a nonzero list of lascivious accusations against him. All of these items, even taken individually, would suppress player value yet combined to yield the best contract in NFL history.

Jackson has not sat out a season, has a nonzero number of MVPs, and zero lascivious accusations against him, and just got nonexclusively tagged.

He doesn't wanna pay an agent a portion of his income to help get him a deal, so he's obviously cheap, I mean, frugal...

And Jackson is the same age as the QB that just won the national championship in college.

This is one of the biggest reasons the dude needs an agent. He’s getting killed in the PR end of this.

You are leaving out one variable, the stupidity of the Browns.

If that’s the standard then they shouldn’t have used Cousins’ or Elliot deals as setting the market. Or how about McGlinchey’s new deal? There are numerous examples of stupid deals in past 20 years. Browns are not the only stupid team that gave out a market setting deal. How about Jets caving to Bell?
