IMO it's hard to assess Purdy correctly because any quarterback capable of making an NFL roster ought to be very productive driving that semi the Niners put on the field. Samuel, Kittle, McCaffery, not to mention the field position the defense gives you, it's better than looking around at, oh, I dunno, the Cardinals' huddle.

Agreed, but there was a definite upgrade between him and Garappolo in terms of taking shots farther down the field and moving in the pocket.

I don’t see Wentz fitting the ideal backup profile of good in the room/like an extra coach. Maybe teammates like him well enough, but preparation and smarts never seemed to be his strengths.

"Carson Wentz, quarterback. A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's best backup quarterback in waiting. Carson Wentz will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster."

    SKOAL!

That was a very different situation. You had the Cardinals going through a coaching change and it was clear Rosen had very little value.

I thought there was talk of him not being well-liked in Philadelphia.

A matchup of would-be Top 10 worthy quarterbacks, neither facing a high end defense.

I’m a Dallas fan and that rings a bell. It all seemed to go sideways for him in a hurry, and they gave up on him pretty quickly.

I thought Wentz summed himself up pretty well in Washington's season opener against Jacksonville. He was brutal for three quarters but put it together for two drives to help the Commies somehow steal a win. It helped that Etienne dropped two TDs in that game, but still ...

You cannot trust him in any way, shape or form. Go back to that miserable loss against Cleveland that knocked them out of the playoffs. He was horrendous. He's a guy with a rocket arm, no touch, no ability to read defenses, no ability to adjust, no ability to know when to get rid of a ball under pressure. And at 30, those things aren't changing. He fucking stinks.

While Snyder is a first class scumbag, some of the writing in the article is so pro the minority owners. When it says that the NFL “moved to shut down arbitration proceedings” it almost certainly simply required the parties mediate the dispute per their ownership contract (settling is better for the league than an ugly fight). And the minority partners settled in mediation — they presumably had every right to refuse to settle and bring the matter to arbitration. Now they have sour grapes because the value of team has gone up. Good for ESPN to get the materials, but a nickel says that once the confidential documents had to be produced to the Feds, one of the minority owners slipped Van Natta a copy and can plausibly claim that they weren’t the source of the leak.

Great work by DVN for sure.

But also a reminder of how often big scoops are the result of documentary leaks by interested parties.
