What do you make of this?

The Islanders pulled UBS out of a hat (mysterious co-owner no one ever sees brokered a backroom deal for state land w/Cuomo and got it done shortly before all the shit hit all the fans). Is there a potential miracle end-around solution out there for the Coyotes?

The conference issue can be adjusted. The Atlanta Thrashers were moved to Winnipeg. It was funny seeing them in the Southeast Division until the latest realignment.

I'm thinking it's down to Houston or Quebec. One guess as to which one will likely be preferred by Bettman.

It will take a mysterious co-owner ... one known for paying his/her/its bills.

Current ownership won't, which is why it was locked out of Glendale.

Of course it was an educated guess, based on recent happenings in Bettman's league. The other things I "guessed" right about were that in the Covid year, they would "expand" the playoffs so the Rangers, in the league's biggest market, would get in. Yep. And then when there was a consensus No. 1 draft pick in Alex Lafreniere, it just so happened the Rangers won the lottery so the star power goes to New York. The Rangers made the playoffs and won the lottery. That wasn't too hard to figure. Just ask the Knicks and Patrick Ewing in the league where Bettman worked before getting to the NHL.

I only try to do this on issues that the decision-makers are involved in. Once the puck is dropped, it's out of their hands, so there goes your argument that Boston and Toronto should have won their series. Hey, I watched the worst team in the league try like hell to win their games.

This discussion wouldn't have continued had Elliotte not picked it up from what he is hearing around the league. I'm not the solo voice on this.

There are potentially other options, but a lot of that will depend on whether ownership will want to build without a city handout.

For example, there is a dead mall in Mesa right on a freeway that would be perfect. From my understanding the Coyotes have inquired about it with the city and were essentially told "Yeah, you can have it, but other than that we aren't giving you shit."

The Tempe site didn't involve significant upfront costs for the city but there were a ton of tax breaks involved. Mesa won't do that. If the Coyotes owner can't get a better deal he may begrudgingly do it. It would beat the hell out of his current situation, and there is no appetite for giving breaks to billionaires right now.

The other pipe dream has been that they could get a deal on tribal land. They've worked on that for years and nothing ever came close, so I don't know how realistic it is to expect it now. There are a few locations that would work well. The team would definitely want to be able to develop the land around the arena and doing it on the reservation would probably complicate the hell out of that.

One odd note from Tempe: That was a multi-billion dollar project that had the potential to be really lucrative, and the Coyotes' billionaire owner spent a grand total of $700k on the campaign to pass it. I don't know if he thought it was a slam dunk to get it passed, but his cheap ass didn't do himself any favors there.

This has all the makings of a billionaire counting on the sports welfare wagon paying for whatever he wishes ... only for the area to rebuff him at every point.

Too freaking bad. Pay your bills at Glendale in the first place, and this might not have become such a mess.

Is it wrong to suggest Salt Lake City as a possible location or is it too small?

I can’t believe this board has someone backwards ass stupid enough to think the draft was rigged.

    Wait, yes I can.

Like a true conspiracist you refuse to answer questions posed to you and ignore logical reasoning from people that were actually there. Your commitment to the nonsense is admirable.

The playoff in games were mostly about TV contracts and fairness to teams that hadn’t all played the same amount of games.

No professional league does more to help bottom feeding welfare teams at the expense of teams that actually pay the bills than the NHL

I’m glad you’ve moved on from the refs are screwing your favourite team.

Yeah, and you always keep coming back with "all the people who knew and kept it quiet." That is your opinion, which is no better or worse than mine. I didn't dissect the whole ping-pong ball thing because it was so convoluted only computer nerds could understand it. Somebody wrote that if the last number was 14 instead of 12, Columbus would have won -- or something like that.

You're just pissed that I was right. That had to really frost your ass.
