There’s the run to the portal era. We’re not giving you four or five years to show progress. You get two, maybe three. That Purdue team was consistently bad from start to finish.

Purdue could do worse than Barry Odom.

Kennesaw State gets a jump on the hiring side of the equation, bringing in Jaguars RB coach Jerry Mack. Before the NFL he was running backs coach at Tennessee and if you dig a while back into his resume he had a solid run as head coach of North Carolina Central. Probably as much as the mighty Owls could hope for while paying out of loose change in the ashtray.

I was trying to think where he would up — West Virginia is open too. I wonder if he fits better in the Big 12

Apparently Temple is hiring Sam Houston’s coach, which is interesting

Also: How much does Purdue owe the guy it just whacked?
Not sure if this mattered — it probably didn’t — but it couldn’t have helped when Walters described yesterday’s performance as “the worst offense I have ever seen.”

But maybe Barry Odom could do worse than Purdue. In a year or two.

Barry Odom could definitely do worse than staying at UNLV

Interesting to see the variation in buyout amounts due to executed coaches. The discrepancies stem from length of remaining obligations and extent of coaches’ previous achievements.
Mike Norvell would have been owed ~ $56,000,000 if whacked now. Purdue executed Ryan Walters for < $10,000,000. I suppose that’s a good deal for them.

And if you're the targeted hire at Purdue, would you consider going there for such a relatively-low buyout number, knowing you're, at best, the 16th-best program in the conference?

Really a no-win situation and no real payout when the end comes in 2-3 years.

Keeler coached at nearby Delaware. for a long time Pennsylvania native.

Maybe he even had a Delaware beach house he wants to use more.
