Well, as a fan of two teams with a combined 54 (!) tourney appearances without ever making a Final Four, I will gladly take one in exchange for a decade of faded memories to follow.

All Iowa State has to do to get out of Arizona with a win is not give up a half-court shot at the buzzer. That'll never hap-

There are a lot of parallels between VCU basketball and Virginia Tech football, both of which had incredible one-year runs (VCU's Final Four, Tech reaching the national title game during Vick's freshman year) and some pretty fair success afterward. But neither have ever been able to replicate that one magical year and have been chasing it hard ever since. VCU hasn't won a tournament game since 2016 and every coach that goes there seemingly has the side-eye on another job, because they know the A-10 is now a two-bid league at best and one bid most years. That'll get you a 12 seed and a tough path to any success. At least the Rams have made a the tournament a few times since their run. Mason hasn't been since 2011.

It'll be another one-bid A-10 this season, unless VCU runs the table and loses in the conference championship game. Rams are 0-1 in Q1 games, have a terrible loss to Seton Hall and only have one Q1 opportunity left -- at Dayton. Any loss outside of the two Dayton games or the George Mason game (which is at home) would be brutal, and that's a lot of ask of any college team, to be on every single night even against bad opponents.

I'd still prefer that someone put a body on Scottie Reynolds and Pitt, not Villanova, head to the Final Four in 2009. I think it changes the perception of Jaime Dixon at minimum.

Thanks, Caleb, for getting my Arizona -2½ to the finish line.

It will end at the same time. This is building in an extra 30 minutes for the endless slog of video reviews.
