Funny scene during STL-BOS game tonight. Scrum in corner. Thirty-nine year old Ryan Suter, who is listed at 6'2" but looks 5'10" compared to everyone else, had a look on his face I translated as, "I'm too old for this shit."
Jets 6, Rangers 3. What Winnipeg is doing is unsustainable but it sure will come in handy when the Jets hit a slump.
As much money as he made during his stint in the Twin Cities, that's probably an accurate interpretation, especially given what people have been saying about the Blues in their current state.
A couple of weeks ago, I ran into Dave Taylor in an elevator at Honda Center. I had covered the Kings during the Triple Crown Line years. (He works for the Blues now.) I re-introduced myself to him and told him I covered the Kings for the Santa Monica paper back when he played. He remembered me. After brief chit-chat, I asked him if the Ducks had contacted him about working with Leo Carlsson, who has a stuttering problem like Taylor did when he was young. He said no, they haven't and he hadn't met Carlsson yet. But he added that a Swedish sports writer had asked him about that exact thing recently. I told my family about this meeting, I must have texted my daughter. A few days later, I was looking through Facebook Reelz, and up pops a video of a scrum between the Kings and Oilers. Linesmen are holding a King and an Oiler back, suddenly the King lurches forward and delivers a punch that knocks the Oiler right onto his ass. It was Taylor decking Gretzky. I ran into Taylor again by the elevators Wednesday night. I told him about the video clip. He said, that was a long time ago. I laughed and said, yeah, we were both a lot younger then. Funny. I guess since we use the same elevator as those going to the press box makes for these chance meetings. I have run into Butch Goring, Pete Weber, Jimmy Fox, and other former players who are now scouting. I knew Goring as a King, but don't know a lot of others except by name.
Two more for Ovechkin last night in Utah before he left with an apparent leg injury. Hopefully nothing serious. He's up to 15 goals this season and is now 27 away from the record.
Not surprising, been talked about for weeks. Watching Flames-Isles. Reminded that the camera angles at the Saddledome are awesome. Probably best in the league.
Placed on IR today. Drat. Not long-term IR, which is good. Out for at least three games, but probably much more.
Watching Leafs-Vegas. Think I just heard someone on Sportsnet say Matthews went to Germany for exam. Seriously staring at the mushrooms on my pizza.
This team is officially incapable of doing a single goddamn thing right. Predators receive penalty for starting game with wrong lineup vs. Kraken
