    Marty Merzer:

Hurricane Helene Ground Zero Update at 5 p.m.
    - Provisional good news for Tallahassee. The eastward drift of the forecast cone has continued. And for now, Tallahassee no longer is within the forecast cone for a direct hit by Helene's powerful core.
    - At the moment, subject to change, the cone suggests coastal impact between on the west, St. Marks (a bit southeast of Tallahassee), and, on the west, a sparsely populated portion of the Big Bend south of Keaton Beach.
    - However, rough weather still is likely for Tallahassee, which now lies just over the western edge of the cone. So far, we're still getting light rain and modest breezes.
    - But, all of this is very bad news for the folks still within the forecast cone along the Big Bend. They have been mauled by several hurricane in recent years and haven't yet come close to recovering.
    - In other developments, Helene remains a dangerous Category 3 monster and it could intensify to Category 4 before landfall.

Don't tell me hurricanes don't have some kind of sadistic, demonic actual mind. This thing could have made landfall any time today, but it waits until it just gets good and dark to make the minutes seem like hours for those affected.

    Hunker down, @MileHigh. ... You also, @Chef2.
This storm is tremendous, like nobody has ever seen before.

Looks like landfall will be a point in Big Bend on a straight line between Liveoak and Perry.

If you see Cantore in your neighborhood, head for the hills.

Ask him to pose in his muscle tee first, though.
He gets off on that. Maybe he'll sign one for you!

Can't watch Weather Channel coverage. They don't intend it, but it comes off as destruction as entertainment.
