Why do you hate Hatch chiles and pollo al carbon?

Pueblo chilies beat out Hatch. Balloon Festival is pretty cool. Carlsbad Caverns. Otherwise, yeah, nope to being there full time.

Can you imagine what the take would be from running a Waffle House in a turnpike service area?

Waffle House Index is more a measure of AFTER the hurricane, not before.

As noted earlier, it's going to hit hard in the middle of the night just to increase people's terror, waiting for the coming dawn to survey the damage.

WH closes those likely to get a direct hit in advance, as well. The map MileHigh posted shows them.

We visited Venice one afternoon in May when we were staying at my buddy's place in Sarasota. What a cool little town. We walked the beach, can't imagine what a hit and storm surge would do there.

In other news, the Weather Network here in Canada is promoting its Milton coverage with three "stormchasers" on the ground with one of them posting on her socials that this is her 10th hurricane as if there's some sort of scorecard among these people. This makes no sense to me, this hurricane will have no negligible impact on Canada and yeah, there are plenty of people here who have family (like me) and/or properties down there but CNN and other major outlets, in addition to local TV, would do a good job of covering it. When the authorities are telling people to get out, the last thing people trying to deal with this on the ground need are weather tourists (as someone on X described them) from Canada waving cameras around. My two cents anyway.

OK. We're not going to see a whole lot more movement of the projected landfall line now. It's appearing to be heading for the Sarasota Bay. And it hasn't begun to weaken yet, which might be the bigger concern. Now the rain forecast for St. Pete and Tampa is over 12 inches, coupled with a 10-15 foot storm surge (which might be slightly lower now because of the storm's track), will still do a ton of damage to a lot of dwellings even if they don't get hurricane-force winds.

My neighbor believes his trailer is at 13 feet in elevation, so it could come right up to the door, or just float them all down the road. We'll have to wait to see what happens.

And again, it's insidious that these storms have a tendency to hit in the middle of the night when the power's off. So you don't really know the extent of the damage until sunrise.

Here's the latest Waffle House info. Every WH between Gainesville and Miami will close this afternoon.
