Wazzu and Oregon State will be lucky to finish in the upper half of the WCC. I saw some stat that had Oregon State behind seven or eight WCC teams.

Sidenote - always wondered how Damon Stoudemire went from going sub .500 at Pacific to ending up at Georgia Tech.

Wazzu is leading the Pac-12. It would do just fine in the WCC.

IUPUI seems like an exceedingly difficult place to win (it's averaged about 6 wins per season over the past five):

The new coach won't even be at IUPUI. It'll be rebranded as IU Indianapolis next year. They are finally getting a decent on-campus arena as part of the IU-Purdue breakup. (The legislature is investing in bunch of new campus facilities alongside the breakup and a multi-purpose arena is one of them.)

Ron Hunter is really the only coach who has done well there. Jason Gardner was finally making some headway in his fifth year, but then he got a DUI and resigned. I had a lot of hopes that he'd get them going.

I was dually enrolled at IUPUI while in high school, before that became a common thing. I did it solely because I hated high school and my parents wouldn't let me graduate early despite having finished all the requirements before the end of my junior year. I figured out I could leave the high school at 10:30 a.m. every day and take two Tuesday/Thursday classes at IUPUI. There was no organized program, I just found a provision in the state code that required my local school to release me if there were classes it didn't offer that could be taken at a local college, so then I went hunting for classes that you couldn't get at a small high school and told them that's what I wanted to do. The principal was pissed. It was glorious. It also left me with a fondness for the place.

This year isn't going well for Tulane, but Ron Hunter is a GRINDER who wins at hard places to win. He's made IUPUI, Georgia State and Tulane into top 100 programs this century. DePaul could do a lot worse than him. And probably will.

They lost to Detroit. That's reason enough to get fired this year.

Although somehow the lamebrain running the UD athletic department will justify keeping Mike Davis for a seventh year after he set an NCAA record by going 1-31 in Year 6.

    Looks like he's out:

I can't remember if it was mentioned here or on Twitter, but what a bizarre career arc Mike Davis has produced. Almost won a national title as a placeholder HC at a blue blood, made the tourney five times in eight years at UAB & Texas Southern--which is fucking impressive--and then cratered in historic fashion at Detroit.

The Mark Byington-to-West-Virginia buzz seems to be picking up steam.

Indiana sticking with Woodson, it seems.

Detroit's AD is named Vowels. Or should it be _e__oi_'_ AD is named Vowels?

He used to be commissioner of the SWAC. That’s a reverse career arc to rival Davis.
