I also think this could be an all offense senior class — they took 3 defensive guys last time and that’s going to be a major point.

    Good point.
Kuechenberg would have been my fourth pick.
Those first three I listed in alphabetical order for some unknown reason, actually favor Taylor first.
Since that post, my heart reminded me I read Furman Bisher a lot; my head told me Tommy Nobis (RIP) was a very good player on bad teams. Sometimes, the clash of sentimentalism versus reality sucks.

If that’s the case, I think Roger Craig will get the nod.

I wonder if the go by who has waited the longest, someone like Kuchenberg who was a regular finalist like seven times, or older guys so you get them in before they die. They can’t really go wrong with anybody per se, it’s just the road they take isn’t obvious

Maxie Baughan, most Pro Bowls of any non HOFer with 9.

I think he gets dinged because he was first team all pro only once but was second team five times.

he seems slotted behind Nobis because of all-decade honors and gradishar, as a defensive poy who I think is the best lb on the ballot.
And then you throw in banks, who is more famous but I don’t think is a better player

Tommy Nobis was a very good player on bad knees, back in the stone ages of knee surgery... AND he played on really bad teams.

He was a helluva LB for a while, and I hope he does not get passed over.

not gonna lie, the fact that he is dead will not help his chances

    It didn't affect Sam's chances.

    Gradishar, Sharpe and Walls.

Gradishar shouldn't have been overlooked given how good the Orange Crush was.

Sterling Sharpe's career was cut short by the neck injury. Similar to Terrell Davis and Gayle Sayers, the fact that he was a supernova shouldn't hurt the cause.

It seemed like Walls came down with more than his share of interceptions. Might not have had the pure intimidation factor ... in hindsight, maybe he should have.

Like Ken Anderson, Ottis Anderson, Tommy Nobis and Joe Jacoby a lot, but not more than the three above.

Nobis was out of the league thirty years before Sam. There aren't as many people who remember how good he was. Not only was the the Rookie of the Year and voted to the Pro Bowl in 1966, he had 294 combined tackles. That's still the Falcons record, and it's also the unofficial NFL record. He was a helluva ball player till his knees got torn up.

that was on the regular ballot.

With the senior ballot, you are dealing with guys who could not be around the next year for their induction/selection. A guy like that is going to be a higher priority. There’s not as big a worry about Patrick Willis being alive for the 2025 election so if he waits, he waits.

Maxie Baughan is about to be 85, Eddie Meador 86 next month. Ken Anderson is 74. You don’t want to pass them over so they don’t get to know/experience they made it

why would you pick a class of Nobis, Kuchenberg and Isbell when there’s living options?

I think Ken Riley was different last year because he was a guy everyone was like, he needs to be in and shouldn’t have waited.

when the final 12 come out in a couple weeks, every name listed has a strong case but I don’t think there’s a consensus guy that will lead the group
