It's apparently just for one season until they can figure out a permanent name. Hated it until I read that, sort of makes sense.

I love that Canadian fans sang along with the American national anthem in Edmonton tonight.

    Great crowd, eh?

Careful. They are the NHL’s answer to St. Louis Cardinal fans.

I like the colours. Hope they nail the name, although I really hope they don’t go with a theme.

I don't mind them going this route to start. In all honesty, I kind of thought the Washington should have kept Washington Football Team in the NFL. No one else had it, it was unique, and all that. Commanders isn't bad, but that just seemed a little cooler in my unasked for opinion.

As an Avalanche fan, one issue I feel they have with their finalist names is they are too close to what has been established in Colorado. Blizzard and Avalanche two winter natural disasters. Colorado's original mascot was a big foot, with a logo to go with it on the shoulders, which many fans still really like/prefer over what they changed it to -- kind of a state logo. They still sell merch with the foot logo on it now. I bought a hat not long ago.

Maybe neither of those are a big deal, but man they just seem so similar and not really an original thought. Also, Colorado has two lacrosse teams, one indoor and one outdoor, called the Mammoth and Outlaws. Just weird coincidences?

Would have liked colors of the red rock canyons that dominate the state, but oh well.

I hate "singular" names generally, loath "adjectives". not a fan of any of the final nominees. Yeti gets points for alliteration, but that's it. I know the state is big on bees and gulls - not great hockey names. Mustangs wouldn't have been bad.

My bet is they'll end up sticking with "Hockey Club." Which will continue the creeping Eurosoccerization of North American pro sports.

I mean, even Euro soccer clubs have nicknames, even if they go by XXX FC. Watford is the Hornets. Brighton is the Seagulls. Chelsea is the Blues. Brentford is the Bees and on and on.

Man U is the Red Devils, but everybody knows that.

    Actually, they don't.
