Not a problem for this Yank. That story is gut-wrenching on every level, since I remember when it happened and had a good buddy of mine who grew up in Edmonton fill me in on what I didn't know.

Looking forward to seeing it, especially since I have no desire to watch the Tupac-Tyson or Martina-Chrissy stories; the former because that whole scene does nothing other than repel me, the latter because I just can't get into tennis.

Given how good some of those docs have been, it's disappointing to see that the Yankees got their own 60-minute infomercial. Just pure drek.

Yeah, that was pretty lame. The only thing that I came away with was how much Hal resembles his father, in terms of his vocal cadence and how he bullies people.

I only saw the last half hour or so, but I was really moved by some of the Hal Steinbrenner interview. How he got choked up talking about getting sent to military school and missing his mother... how he refers to his father as 'George'... How he talks about being an introvert (man, I get that.)

It's fascinating how this team has fallen to Hal. There's a story to be told in there. I'm not sure she got it, though.

Supposedly the son-in-law, Steve Swindal, was the heir apparent, but then he divorced the daughter. And then Hank was more interested in raising horses than running the baseball team.

But yeah, kind of a Michael Corleone deal with Hal winding up as George's successor.

And don't forget about Swindal's gun charge.

And why, with four capable kids, was the heir apparent a weird son-in-law who likes to carry guns?

Did the kids not want it? Did George not want them to have it?

    What happened with Hank?

Why didn't Hank appear in Kopple's documentary?

As I said, a great story to be told.... by someone...

Indeed. I thought some of it, mostly the history of the stadium itself was kind of neat. And the parts with Hal Steinbrenner talking about the differences between himself and his father were intriguing.

But yeah... could've done without the other 45 minutes of slobbering all over the Yankees.

I passed on the Steinbrenner one. I don't have to watch all 30.

When is Bartman coming? I've been waiting all year for it.

    Bingo, Lugs.

That was the only good part of the whole reach-around, although I had a soft spot for the interview with the 93-year-old (at the time) Yankee fan. He's a year younger than my dad.

The rest? Not worthy of being associated with the other "30 for 30" efforts.

Watching the Terry Fox story now.
I wasn't familiar with the story.
All I can say is wow, just wow.
    Incredible.

Somehow, 30 for 30 continues to outdo itself. "Into The Wind" was fantastic, to the point where I reached for the tissue box several times. What made the movie was the original footage of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope - the grainy film of him running solitary in the Maritimes, the crowds who met him in Toronto, the pained gait in every step he took for more than 3,300 miles.

Have to appreciate "Into the Wind" for not trying to turn Fox into a hero beyond what he was. He actually comes off as unlikable, at points, which would have been easy to glaze over, but it's inclusion made the piece all the better.
