In an hour, we realling didn't get to care about him as a person. And since we didn't know when he actually relapsed, it's not like they could even play up the "pressure of the limelight/Triple Crown caused this" card. Also -- did he even ride the horse once before the Derby? I mean even a story about a practice ride the day before and what he felt about the horse would have helped. There was no history with the horse and jockey and no epihpany moment -- based it seemed like a lazy horse somehow was motivated.

Two other points -- I agree that not having Lukas was a killer -- he was one the the three main characters and the only one capable of providing insight. Also -- I didn't know that Mike Francesca was an agent for jockeys.

Recorded the Renee Richards one, but it cut off midway through since it was a replay and the prior event ran long (I Assume). Founf it on the DVR. Sometime next week, but don't recall. If your DVR has search function just punch in ESPN Films. Here's the brief sked from the website:

    TUESDAY, OCT. 25
    The Real Rocky 8 p.m.
    TUESDAY, NOV. 1
    Unguarded 8 p.m.
    SATURDAY, NOV. 5 ON ESPN2
    Unguarded 7 a.m.
    TUESDAY, NOV. 8
    Roll Tide/War Eagle 8 p.m.
    FRIDAY, NOV. 11 ON ESPN2
    Roll Tide/War Eagle 1 a.m.
    SATURDAY, NOV. 12 ON ESPN2
    Catching Hell 5 a.m.
    SATURDAY, NOV. 12 ON ESPN2
    Roll Tide/War Eagle 8 a.m.

And from the "Renee" page on same site, though not sure it's recent, so check local listing:

    FILM SCHEDULE
    WEDNESDAY

    • Renee
    -- ESPN2: 10:30 p.m.
    SUNDAY

    • Renee
    -- ESPN Classic: 1:45 a.m., 5 p.m.

And a s a non-horse racing person I really enjoyed Charismatic. Wasn't a lot of new info, I guess, but a lot of it was new to me. I just knew the most basic story and don't even really recall Antley's death that well.

It's sad, because he was a really good rider and an innately bright kid. Hate to see any athlete go, that way.

Did anyone catch The Real Rocky last night? It was clearly told from Wepner's point of view, but I thought it was great.

It really irritates me they've stopped calling these "30 for 30" even though that's what they are. In addition to the stupidity of ESPN scrapping a brand they spent millions building over the course of a few years, it makes it difficult to find them on my DVR.

Try ESPN Films if your DVR has a decent search function. My Verizon one does.

ESPN's 30 for 30: 30 films inspired by events during ESPN's first 30 years of broadcasting.

They already did 30 films, and are now addressing events/subjects that occurred prior to ESPN's existence as evidenced by the Wepner documentary.

Seems it would be pretty stupid if they continued to label them as "30 for 30."

Precisely. Though it be nice for the series to be called "ESPN Films" or something for cable guide purposes. Granted, that's probably more on the carrier than it is the network.

I just set my DVR for Tuesday at 8. They seem to do these things in 'mini-seasons', right?

See above. I can search ESPN Films on Verizon and find all of them in one grouping.

I'm dreading the Iron Bowl one. Anything that gives Paul Finebaum credibility enters the box down a strike.
