I counted at least five, if you include Lewis. Calvin Smith, I thought, was one that never tested positive. I think that Brazilian (Lane 1) didn't either. Can't remember about the Jamaican in Lane 2 who pulled up lame.

Everyone but Smith and de Silva. The Jamaican (can't remember his name) was charged as a PED trafficker and banned for life a few years ago.

Interesting factoid from last night: Canada 1976 was the only modern summer host to not win a gold medal!

And this is a great example of how to stick in a jab with words.

Plus, eventually it starts to filter down to high schools, AAU teams, little league, etc. We've all seen some of the nutjob travel ball parents. If PEDs were legal in pro and college sports, how long would it take for some of them to start juicing up their 10-year-old the minute he shows some athletic ability?
And the worst part would be, some of the kids -- especially in the high school ranks -- would embrace it as their ticket to the big time. I'm sure there's plenty that already do. At least now, there's still a stigma attached to it that can make them think twice.

I finally got around to watching it and had a sense of impending doom the entire time. I still vividly recall the elation at Ben beating Carl and the despair when Ben was stripped. Lots of people turned into complete a-holes when Ben got busted, all of a sudden he was a Jamaican sprinter, not a Canadian.

Carl Lewis is still a piece of shit, fuck him and his fuckwit manager.

The one thing that I can't wrap my head around is that Ben was busted for Winstrol (Stanazol) when going back to 84 it seems that the HGH and the east German designer steroid were undetectable.

It would not suprise me if someone spiked the Winstrol into something Ben ate or drank.

FWIW I thought Dennis Smith came off very well.

Fuck the Dubin enquiry as well, nothing like sacrificing our athletes for Canadian sanctimonious and bureaucracy.

I loved this article by Pierce.

Believe Charlie Pierce made the same point in his column the other day.

Headline day before test: Canadian Sprinter Wins Gold!

Headline day after test: Jamaican Sprinter Fails Drug Test.

@Stoney - I read the Pierce piece when it came out and he was spot on. Lots of racism below the surface came bubbling out when tha thappened. I think so many people were embarassed as a nation that they lashed out the wrong way.

On this I think we can all agree. Does Lewis ever fail to come across as a phony douchebag?

I loved him singing the sorrowful victim song about how his "mother was forced to watch that." Oh, that poor dear, having to endure watching her son win a silver, instead of gold, in one event. As if the bagful of golds he already had from prior games wouldn't be enough to ease a mother's misery.

The answer from the spiker and the results the PED tester discovered years later was spooky. My view of Lewis changed completely after this piece. I get the feeling he is a cheat himself and couldn't handle losing and losing to Johnson. So arrogant and acting like some sort of victim. The look on his face when he lost in Seoul was classic.
As for the 2 episodes, 9.79* much better than Broke. The first few minutes with the music threw me. I thought if they focused on 2 or 3 guys and detailed the financial falls — sprinkled in with a few vingettes of other athletes — it would've been much more effective.
